But evenPeter Nonnenmacher didn’t predict he would win the Business Person of the Year Award at the 2016 Campbelltown Local Business Awards.

The ceremony for the awards was held at Wests leagues Club on Wednesday night.

Hundreds of local businesses arrived at the start of the night hoping to walk away with one of the major awards.

MrNonnenmacher, a financial planner at Hillross in Campbelltown, was one of those with their fingers crossed.

“It was probably relief more than anything when my name was read out,” he said.

“We’ve been in business for 17 years so to win the award it gives you a bit of relief because you are recognised by your customers, friends and family.

“It’s one of those accolades that help you move forward with a bit of confidence.

“It shows you know what you’re talking about because people recognise that.”

It’s been a big six months for the local business who was also named the best Hillross practice out of 155 Australia wide.

Speaking to the Advertiser the next day, MrNonnenmacher said the feeling of winning Business Person of the Year still hadn’t sunk in.

“I was back at work at 7.15am this morning so I hasn’t sunk in just yet,” he said.

The 53-year-old first opened his business in Liverpool in the mid 1990sbut decided to make the move to Campbelltown in 2004.

“My family and I lived in Glen Alpine and the kids went toSt Peter’s Anglican Primary School in Campbelltown so I decided to buy the premises on Iolanthe Streetand build,” he said.

“We wanted to be closer to home.

“Macarthur has always had that better feeling –not that I’m bagging out Liverpool –but Macarthur has always had that friendly feeling.

“But that’s one of the beauties of Campbelltown and Macarthur.

“It’s a village mentality where everyone tries to help each other out.”

Mr Nonnenmacher had a simple message for all those customers and locals who had supported the business.

“Thank you for the support,” he said.

“Without good, loyal clients, we wouldn’t have a business.”
