As it turned out it was just the right type of game for the ladies to build our confidence and play in a more structured way.

Macquarie showed up with what everyone thought was 11 players but due to injuries, took the field with nine players.

“This enabled Mudgee to play a slower more deliberate pace then what we have been playing,” McDermott said.

An early goal from Stephanie Bartlett after good lead up play put Mudgee on top in what we thought would be an easy day.

But to no avail. As always is the case with these so called easier games Mudgee let their guard down and Macquarie responded straight away.

“All of a sudden, we were in a game and this game wasn’t going to be as easy as we thought,” McDermott said.

A great individual effort from outside the 18 yard Box by Molly Forrest put Mudgee up 2-1 at half-time.

The second half was just like the first, in we would score and Macquarie would hit straight back. Mel Gibbons scored a great individual goal, as did Chloe Palfreyman, with Chloe Smith’s Goal coming from great lead up play from the whole team.

The end result was a win for the Mudgee Wolves FC Ladies.

“The girls played the way I had asked them to prior to taking the field,” McDermott said.

“They played more deliberately and not the 100 kmh they have been and the results were there for us all to see.

“The disappointing part with this game was the ladies seemed to fall into the hole of we are up against nine and we should put this team to the sword but this wasn’t the case this week.

“We seemed to score and then we would turn off until they scored.

“This is something we will need to work on and I hope this game doesn’t come back to bite us at year’s end on for and against.

“It was good to see all the ladies contribute to the teams play including the late inclusion of Grace Woodgate from the U/16s, but on a sour note we lost another player for the season to another knee injury, that being Paige Lee.”

Mudgee Wolves 5 (Stephanie Bartlett, Molly Forrest, Mel Gibbons, Chloe Smith and Chloe Palfreyman) defeated Macquarie United 3.
