Boxing legend Muhammad Ali has been immortalised on the walls of Blacktown PCYC.

Yesterday, Penrith-based artist Graham Hoete finished a powerful mural of Ali.

It stands about a storey tall, overlooking the entrance to the building.

It took the better part of the day, but Mr Hoete –also known as Mr G –said hewanted to commemorate one of his personal heroes.

“It’s really just about giving props to Muhammad Ali and his life,” the 37-year-old said.

“My background is kick-boxing. I think for myself, Ali pioneered creativity in fighting and how effective it can be.

Mr Hoete has also painted other powerful murals including Michael Jordan in the PCYC’s basketball court and singer-songwriter Prince in Liverpool.

“I’ll only do portraits of people who have inspired me in some way,” he said.

“I always use my art to pay tribute to the people who have influenced me or inspired me in some way.”

The artists is flying out tomorrow to paint three more murals in the United States.
