Roll up, Karnivool’s in town

ROCKING OUT: Karnivool will be “road-testing” new tracks at Waves Wollongong on June 17. The group has not long come back from wowing crowds in Russia.Illawarra rock’n’rollers will have some heavy shoes to fill when Karnivool next play Waves at Towradgi on June 17.

The progressive rockers have recently finished up a tour of Russia, which lead singer Ian Kenny said was off the wall.

“They love their heavy music,” Kenny said.

“Russia’s a fairly oppressed sort of place to live, and if you’re young and explosive you’re just going to latch onto fire.I think that’s what happens at these heavy festivals there, it’s a place where kids go and let loose and explode and do what they can’t really do in how the country operates.”

Before supporting US super-groupthe Deftones later this year, Karnivool will be “road-testing”new material from their upcoming album to gauge what fans think.

They’ll still be playing old favorites to get the crowd moshing, but expect plenty of new tunes ahead of the group being locked in a recording studio at the end of the year.

“We just want to see what it’s like on stage. It always feels slightly different on stageand then yeah’ again on the crowd reaction,” Kenny said.
