CCC South had seven players named in the state side after defeating Riverina Murray 6.3 (39) to 2.2 (14) in the final at Lavington Oval on Thursday.

George Sandral, who attends Leeton’sSt Francis College, starred in the midfield and was named player of the carnival.

Winning coach, Leeton’s Travis Doyle, said it was a huge performance to go through the three days undefeated.

“They are a great bunch of kids,” Doyle said.

“The side was extremely coachable, had a high talent level and adapted to the conditions better than most of the other kids.

“It was a fantastic effort.

“We had seven players picked in the state side and another couple just missed out.”

CCC South kicked the opening three goals in the final before the ball became slippery and never looked back.

With Sandral dominating in the middle and across half-forward, Riverina Murray struggled for scoring opportunities despite the persistence of Wilson, Bailey Minogue and Darcy Melksham.

CIS finished the carnival in third spot after defeating CCC North by 36 points.

Riverina South West came sixth following their five-point loss to Sydney.

Doyle said the standard was high despite the conditions.

“It was a good carnival,” he said.

“The Sydney sides were a lot more competitive thanprevious years.

“They are getting a lot stronger.”

CCC South’s MVP award went to Wagga’sNathaniel Mooney, whileRiverina-South West’s MVP went to Temora’s Lachlan Leary.

The national championships will be held at Maroochydore on July 30.
