Maxies Meat Markets, located in Unanderra, has now been supplying families in the region with quality meatsfor over 50 years.

The butchery was opened in February 1966 by Maxie Burnside. He had completed his apprenticeship at Port Kembla Butchery in the years prior, but together with wife Shirley, decided to open a business of their own.

It then moved to Fairy Meadow, until the property was movedfor the Northern Distributor construction.

Following that, a supermarket style shop was opened on the Princes Highway, Unanderra and a second shop was opened in Dapto, before Max and Shirley retired.

The butchery, now owned and operated by sons Mark and Peter, is located inTannery Street in Unanderra.

“Mum and dad both passed on a strong work ethic, we start early, work hard and are always trying to improve the friendly and enthusiastic services we offer,” Mark Burnside said.

While Maxie is officially retired there’s no keeping him away from the business that he loves.“He is still at the shop each Friday serving up delicious taste testers of ourflavoured sausages. Pop in for a free taste,” Mark said.

Can’t keep him away: Although retired, Maxie still comes into the business each Friday to cook up some delicious sausages for the customers to try.

Many things have changed over the 50 years that Maxies Meats has been in operation but the cornerstone of the business has remained the same and that is their dedication to theircustomers.

Maxie, Peter and Mark would like tothank all oftheir clientele over the past 50 years and theylook forward to continuing the business well into the future.
