Triple ton

HANDS FULL: Tim Condon, pictured with his 9-month-old twin daughters Macy and Georgie, will play his 300th game for Panmure this weekend. Picture: Amy PatonPANMURE will honour one of its favourite sons when Tim Condon plays his 300th game against South Rovers at Panmure on Saturday.

Condon has played in four of the club’s five Warrnambool and district league premierships.

He was a teenager when he played in the Bulldogs 2001-02 flags, claiming best-on-ground honours in the 2002 triumph over Merrivale.

Condon was then an established senior star when the Bulldogs went back-to-back under Simon O’Keefe in 2012-13.

Each of the premierships hold special significance for Condon.

“The first one is always good,” Condon said.

“In the second one, I felt more a part of it, in 2001 I didn’t do a lot so it was good to get a few kicks the next year.Being older in 2012-13, those ones meant a lot. I remember the first training session we had under Tocka (O’Keefe), we had 52 blokes turn up. There were blokes from everywhere, Tocka coming over created a lot of excitement and there was a real buzz around the place. It’s great to have times like that because people in the community put so much time into the club.”

While Condon, 33, was a star in the glory days, he is proving he can also dig deep when needed as he continues to shine bright in a tough start to the season.

Panmure has won just one of its nine games but Condon and his team are fighting on.

“We played the top six teams in the first six rounds,” Condon said.

“It has been a tough draw but we’re not complaining. We have played some good footy in patches, we now have to start showing our best form over four quarters.”

Condon grew up in the area before his family moved to Gippsland for six years. He played his junior football atHeyfield and Maffra and only a handful of junior games when he returned to Panmure before stepping into the senior team as a 16-year-old under the coaching of Billy Bourke.Condon said he intends to play on next season and is keen to step into coaching in the future.
